In Memory OfAlan R. "Beech" and Eloise A. "Elo" BeecherEloise Augusta "Elo" Beecher of Cordova, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Friend Manor in Friend at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was born on February 3, 1917, in Cordova to August and Johannah (Nielsen) Christiansen, the youngest of 13 children. She was a 1934 graduate of Cordova High School and then worked at the grocery store in Cordova until her marriage.Alan Rodney "Beech" Beecher of Cordova, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Friend Manor in Friend at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 1 day. He was born on May 13, 1920 in Portland, OR to Earl and Pearl (Hunkins) Beecher, the second child of five children. As a young boy he moved with his family to Cordova where his grandfather was the depot agent. Alan attended Cordova Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1938. They were united in marriage on June 16, 1941 at Council Bluffs, Iowa and would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this June. They were blessed with the birth of two sons, Larry and Dean. Together they made their home briefly in Iowa before returning to the Cordova area. Shortly thereafter, they traveled to California where Beech worked for Pacific Bridge, a private ship builder. After Pearl Harbor, he traveled to Hawaii working to clean up the harbor and scrap the damaged ships. Beech returned to California and enlisted in the Army Air Corp as an aircraft mechanic. During the war, Eloise was a busy mother caring for her sons in Cordova where she made her home with her parents. After WWII, Beech returned to Cordova and along with Harry Mogensen built the "B&M Garage" in Cordova. They closed this garage in 1956 and Beech went to work for F.D. Wilson Automotive Parts Company where he traveled southeast Nebraska selling automotive parts. In 1962, Beech purchased Roush Chevrolet in Friend which he then operated as "B & B Chevrolet" until his retirement in 1982. Eloise kept the books for the dealership and also worked occasionally part-time at the post office as an assistant Postmaster. They kept a golf-cart at the dealership and enjoyed many noon-hour golf games. Over the years, Beech and Eloise have worked side by side, not only in business, but in pleasure and they enjoyed being each other's helpmate. Whether it was remodeling or building a deck or just being together, they enjoyed a close relationship. In their retirement Beech and Eloise traveled, enjoying several winter trips to Texas, and especially trips to California with their family. Beech will be remembered for his honesty and integrity selling and repairing cars over the years. Beech and Eloise will always be remembered by their family for the love shown to them. They enjoyed their many visits with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eloise had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes on others and she also enjoyed working in her yard raising flowers. Beech was a life-time member of Cordova L. Petersen American Legion Post #359 and Eloise was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. They are survived by their son and daughters-in-law, Dean and Marcia Beecher and Karen Beecher, all of Shenandoah, four grandchildren and spouses, Dan and Mitsi Beecher and Cheryl and Kory Johnson, all of Lincoln, Faith and Jon Swanbom, Ft. Collins, CO, Scott and Lynette Beecher, Sioux City, IA, five great-grandchildren, Nicole Beecher, Hailey and Trevor, Swanbom, Laura and Megan Beecher, Eloise sister, Florence Olsen, Cordova, Beech's sisters and brother-in-law, twins, Bev Sutton, Phoenix, AZ and Bonnie Graziano, Canyonville, OR, Barbara and Don Hall, Mt Prospect, IL, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. They were preceded in death by their parents, their son, Larry in 1986, Eloise's eleven brothers and sisters and Beech's infant brother and sister Betty Jury. A joint Funeral Service for Beech and Elo will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cordova with Rev. Rob Sachs officiating.
