In Loving Memory OfAlfred "Al" O. Van Gundy Alfred "Al" O. Van Gundy, of Beaver Crossing, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 24, 1923 and died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at his home at the age of 84 years 3 months and 15 days. As a young boy Al attended Lincoln Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1941 from Lincoln High School. In 1943 Al was drafted into the US Army and served with the 8th Armored Division in the European Theatre during WWII. Returning from the service, he met the love of this life, Esther Sunneberg and they were united in marriage on August 24, 1946 in Lincoln and to this union, three children, Michael, Terry and Janel were born. Together they made their home in Lincoln where Al worked in the sign industry and began his own sign business "Al Van Gundy Signs" in 1951. Al was one of the few sign painters who did gold leaf lettering. Al and Esther moved to Beaver Crossing in 1977 where he continued his sign business.
