RampAltha Marian Ramp was born on February 24, 1909, in Denver, Colorado, to John and Blanche (Ford) McClatchey, the oldest of eight children and died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Exeter Care Center, Exeter, Nebraska at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 7 days. As a young girl she moved to Nebraska with her family and settled in York County for a time before moving to southwest Nebraska where she graduated from Palisade High School with the class of 1928. Altha furthered her education at York College and taught school at Hershey, Friend, West Point, and Exeter. She married her childhood sweetheart, Samuel "Lonnie" Ramp, on August 24, 1932 and to this union two children, Gwenda and Paul were born. Lonnie was a teacher and together they made their home in several Nebraska towns where he taught, Wynot, Cedar Rapids, Stamford, Edgar, Tekamah, Polk, Loup City, Friend, West Point, and Exeter, before retiring in Friend. An active community member, Altha was a member of United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir and served as president of the Women's Fellowship. She also is a past Worthy Matron and Grand Representative of the Order of Eastern Star, Rose Standish Chapter #265. Other memberships include the Daughter's of the Nile, Friend Grange and Republican Women and the former Laf a Lot Club. She was a 4-H Leader as her children grew up and in her spare time she loved to work in her garden and raise flowers. Altha was also an accomplished painter and painted pictures and murals for her grandchildren. She loved crafts and always made the table decorations for any organization that she was involved with. After Lonnie died she traveled extensively and especially enjoyed a seed corn company trip along, with local friends and companions to Rio-de-Janeiro. She always had a very happy disposition with a smile for everyone. For a time she made her home at Garden Square in Crete before moving to Exeter Care Center.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwenda and Charles Cogswell, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Arlene Ramp, all of Friend, seven grandchildren and spouses, David and Deanna Cogswell, Gretna, Curtis and Lisa Cogswell, McCool Jct, Linda and Kent Blender, Benedict, Jeffrey and Amy Cogswell, Gretna, Emily Ramp, Omaha, Doug Ramp and Brad Ramp, both of Friend, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, sisters and brothers-in-law, Olive Summers, North Platte, Mabel Axtell, North Platte, Opal and Ivan Millsap, Denver, CO, brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Genevieve McClatchey, Fortuna, CA, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Altha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1975, grandson, Randy Cogswell, in 1976, three brothers, F.H. McClatchey, Elburn McClatchey, Virgil McClatchey.A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the United Church of Christ in Friend with the Revs. Tim and Ginny Adams officiating. Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery, York, Visitation is from 2-9 pm on Monday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials have been established to the church.
