Amzi M. Mcbride Obituary (1905

In Memory of Amzi M. McBrideAmzi Mynard McBride, of Friend, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the Friend Manor in Friend at the age of 98 years, 6 months and 11 days. He was born on a farm near Elmwood, Nebraska on June 6, 1905 to William and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Obernalti) McBride, the oldest of five children. At a young age, he and his family moved to a farm near Wabash where he attended country school. Due to the illness of his father, Amzi took over the responsibility of the family farm after his graduation from the 8th grade. Three years later he returned to school and graduated from Murdock High School with the Class of 1926. Amzi furthered his education by attending the Lincoln School of Commerce and later was employed as a lineman for the Lincoln Telephone Company. On December 25, 1934, he was united in marriage to Erma Kesler and to this union two daughters, Sandra and Sharon, were born. Together they farmed in Seward County, later moving to a farm northwest of Friend from which he retired in 1974 and moved into Friend. Amzi was a member of the United Church of Christ and had served on the Congregational Church Board as a Deacon and Trustee for many years. He also was a member and past master of the Friend Masonic Lodge #73, AF & AM, member and past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Rose Standish Chapter # 265, and also served as past master of the Friend Grange #390. In his spare time he enjoyed golf and social membership with the Friend Country Club. Amzi and Erma were about to celebrate their 69th anniversary together this month. In their retirement, they enjoyed traveling across the United States visiting 46 of the lower 48 states and they also spent two months visiting relatives in Germany and traveled through several European countries. Amzi is survived by his wife, Erma McBride, Friend, daughters Sandra Brambila, Colorado Springs, CO, Sharon Cullen, Rockport, TX, nine grandchildren, James Keane, Oklahoma City, OK, Nicolas Keane and his wife Candy, Fayetteville, NC, Shawn Keane and his wife Rosalie, Anchorage, AK, David Cullen and his wife JoAnne, Dortmound, Germany, and Karen Foster and her husband, Danny, San Antonio, TX, Larry Brambila, Lincoln, Beverly Heinz, Colorado Springs, CO, Dale Brambila and his wife Debbie, Lincoln, Angela Brambila, Colorado Springs, CO, 16 great-grandchildren, a brother, Howard McBride, Humeson, IA, a sister, Velma (Mrs. Sterling) Miller, York, many nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Oris and Ivan. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2003, at the United Church of Christ, Friend, with Rev. Jack Scavo officiating. Masonic services conducted by the Friend Masonic Lodge #73 AF&AM members, Chris Olson, Dan Scarborough and Marvin Kraus. Interment is in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation on Friday and Saturday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour before the services at church. Memorials have been established to the Warren Memorial Hospital Foundation. Pallbearers were Masonic Lodge members, Charles Cogswell, Will Yokel, Leo Stokes, Stan Houlden, David McCracken, and Tom Weber. Carolyn Taylor, organist, accompanied the quartet of Everett Stewart, Willard Johansen, Richard and Tom Weber as they sang "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art".
