Bertha K Zak Obituary (1921

In Loving Memory of Bertha K. Zak A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Friend, with Fr. Lawrence Stoley officiating. Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Friend. Visitation will be on Sunday 1-8pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend with the family greeting relatives and friends from 5-7pm. Memorials have been established to St. Joseph Altar Society or Saline County Historical Society, Dorchester. Bertha K. Zak, of Dorchester, was born February 9, 1921 in Dorchester, Nebraska to Eman and Rosa (Pospisil) Dusanek, the oldest of three children and passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Friend Manor in Friend, Nebraska at the age of 94 years 5 months and 7 days. As a young girl she graduated from Dorchester High School with the Class of 1939 and continued her education at the Business College in Omaha. Bertha was united in marriage to James J. Zak in Omaha on June 4, 1943 and to this union two sons, James E. and Edward J. were born. Bertha worked at Brodkey's Jewelers, Wilson Packing Company and the Union Stockyards as a secretary while living in Omaha. She and her family moved to a farm northwest of Dorchester in 1954 and she worked at Formfit-Rogers in Crete for almost 30 years as the office secretary until the plant closed. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Friend. Bertha was always very sociable and took an active part in various clubs and activities including The Saline County Historical Society and Museum, Dorchester American Legion Auxiliary, Saline County Democratic Women, and the ZCBJ (Western Fraternal Life Association. She served on the Saline Eldercare board (now: Saline County Aging Services Board). Bertha had a wry sense of humor, quick witty comebacks, a warm smile and loved to tease everyone. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Carol Zak, Seward, six grandchildren and spouses, Ben Zak and his wife, Jamie, Cowdrey CO, Dana Cotter and her husband, Andy, Valparaiso, Judi Schroeder and her husband Chris, Lincoln, James J. Zak and his wife, Robin, also of Lincoln, Michael Zak and his wife, Jennifer, West Valley, UT, Melissa Simmons and her husband Marc, Crystal MN, Amy Daniels and husband Byron of Colton, CA, Marc Kamper, Orange, CA, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, Anthony and John Ballard, and several special nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James J, son, James E, daughter-in-law, Vicky, sisters, Blanche Rawe and Rose Marie Olson, special nephew, Martin Kamper, who grew up as a son with Bertha's family on the farm.
