In Memory OfCecelia A. (Lipps) ThomasCecelia Anna Addie (Lipps) Thomas, of Milford, died Monday July 19, 2004 at Sunrise Country Manor near Milford at the age of 91 years 1 month and 8 days. She was born in Lancaster County, Nebraska to Ernest and Anna (Meyer) Lipps on June 11, 1913. Cecelia was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Emerald and was confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Lincoln on May 31, 1925. She attended school District #5 in Emerald and graduated with the class of 1931 from Lincoln High School. After graduating from high school, Cecelia worked for a dollar a day so that she could earn the money to attend nurses training. She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1934 and worked as a private nurse until 1935. Cecelia then joined the faculty of Lincoln General Hospital as an assistant surgical surpervisor. On April 25, 1937, she was united in marriage to Walter Thomas of Pleasant Dale at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Lincoln and to this union three children were born: Stan, Jean and Clint.She worked at Seward Memorial Hospital for 23 years where she met numerous Seward County residents and helped deliver many babies including 13 sets of twins. She was a devoted nurse and touched many lives. After retiring from the hospital Cecelia continued to work at Bethesda Care Center, Milford Rest Home and helped with the Community Blood Bank.Cecelia was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pleasant Dale, where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Ladies Aid and Social Club. She was honored by the Alumni Association for actively maintaining her nursing license for more than 50 years.She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Stan and Rosemary Thomas, Milford, Clint Thomas, Pleasant Dale, daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Bernard Becker, Surprise, AZ, sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Schlueter, Seward, Mildred and Lester Harvey, Treynor, IA, Ione Smith, Chicago, IL, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lucile Lipps, Lincoln, grandchildren and spouses, Jon and Deb Thomas, Lincoln, Doug Thomas, Milford, Brian and Denise Becker, Knoxville, IA, Tim and Angie Becker, Carroll, IA, Nate Becker, Surprise, AZ, Myron and Wendy Thomas, Newcastle, WA, and Melissa Oerman, Lincoln, 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter in 1999, sisters, Antoinette (Toni) and Esther, and a brother, Otis.A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pleasant Dale, with Rev. Louis Griser officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Dale Cemetery, Pleasant Dale. Visitation will be from 9-9 Wednesday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Visitation is also one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Memorials have been established to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Brian Becker, Timothy Becker, Myron Thomas, Doug Thomas and Jon Thomas. Honorary Pallbearer is Melissa Oerman.
