Eleanor Kenney, of Friend, was born August 7, 1920 on a farm north of Friend to Charles and Nellie (Drake) Hocking, the youngest of three children and died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend at the age of 86 years 11 months and 4 days. As a young girl she attended country school north of Friend and later graduated with the Class of 1937 from Friend High School. After completing her education, Eleanor helped her parents on the farm until Kenneth returned from the service and they were united in marriage on June 26, 1946 and to this union, three sons, Robert Charles, Bernard Ray, Wayne Alan were born.Together they made their home on a farm near Friend, spending winters in town and out on the farm during the summer, moving permanently into town in 1973. Eleanor was a busy homemaker, a wonderful cook and enjoyed canning and especially making pickles. Her family was very important to her and she was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great-granddaughters. Eleanor did lots of embroidery and made quilts and tea-towels for all her grandchildren. They often traveled to Fallbrook, CA to spend time with special friends, the Walkers, during winter months. She was a long-time member of the Friend United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #173, and was also active in garden and card clubs. Eleanor is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Mary Kenney, Friend, Robert Kenney, Utica, Ray and Jane Kenney, Seward, five grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan and her husband Chad, Lincoln, Bobbie Jo Dailey and her husband Dr. William, Friend, Travis Kenney, Friend and his fiance, Cortney Wolfe, Tobias, Chris and Amanda Kenney, Hastings, Josh and Sadie Kenney, Raytown, MO, two great-granddaughters, Ella Rose Dailey, Friend and Nicole Elizabeth Kenney, Hastings, special friend, Delores Walker and her husband Fritz, Fallbrook, CA, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth in 1981, two sisters, Mildred Irene and Vera Hocking.A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July l6, 2007 at the United Methodist Church, Friend, with Rev. Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment at Andrew Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 1-9pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour before service at the church. Memorials have been established and are directed in care of the family.
