Dean T. Rhoads Obituary (1930

In Memory OfDean T. RhoadsDean Thomas Rhoads, of Milford, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 74 years 5 months and 1 day. He was born in Jasper County, Iowa on a farm near Mingo on April 29, 1930 to Guy and Rosa (Fitchpatrick) Rhoads, the only son and second child of four children. Dean attended Nevada, Iowa public schools and graduated with the class of 1948. He furthered his education by attending University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In 1949, Dean enlisted in the US AirForce and served in Germany during the Korean War. On January 12, 1957, Dean was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" Asmus in Friend and to this union three children, Teresa, Thomas and Tamara were born. Dean was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chamber of Commerce, Thornridge Golf Course, served on the Housing Authority Board and many other community projects, all in Milford. Dean was instrumental with other community members early in the formation of the golf course. He was an insurance agent for Farmers Mutual of Nebraska and operated and later owned the Farmers and Merchants Agency of Milford for many years, retiring in 2000. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf and being a spectator at many sporting events. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he especially enjoyed seeing his grandsons participate in sports, earning their state championships in both football and basketball. Dean also of course enjoyed his granddaughters and spending time on his computer sharing e-mail messages with them. Dean enjoyed his last visit to Portland, OR with his grandson, Bryan, before his departure on a two year mission to Scotland. His family remembers him for his kindness, honesty, sincerity, being solid as a rock, and his sometimes stubborn mentality. He will certainly leave a great legacy for his family. Dean had many long-lasting friendships, including the "Nevada Cubs", a group of men from his class of 1948. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat", Milford, daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Kevin "Chuck" Siebert, Seward, Tammy and Arlan Minzel, Lincoln, son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Lisa Rhoads, Ridgefield, WA, grandchildren, Jason, Travis, Brooke, Ben, Bryan, Marcus, John, Chelsea and Bailey, sisters and brothers-in-law, Caltha and Wayne Schreurs, Lincoln, Ruby and John Kleitsch, Ames, IA, Mary and Bill Corbin, Mesa, AZ, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert and Shirley Asmus, Omaha, and Naples, FL, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Rosa.A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Milford United Methodist Church with Rev. James Miller officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation is from 1-8 pm Saturday, noon?9 pm Sunday and 9 am-noon Monday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford and one hour before services at the church. Memorials are established to the Thornridge Golf Course or to the United Methodist Church.
