Dorotha M Nickels Obituary (1927

Memorial services are 11:00 am Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Church of the Nazarene, 1901 South 70th Street, Lincoln. Burial will be at a later date at Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Memorials have been established to the Connecting Pointe Church of the Nazarene Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, is entrusted with the care and arrangements. Dorotha Mae Nickels was born August 13, 1927, in Bayard, Nebraska to Ernest and Sylvia (Smith) Kuhn, the 2nd of seven children and passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at The Arbors Assisted Living Facility in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89. As a young girl, Dorotha and her family moved to Milford briefly before settling in Havelock and attended Whittier Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School. Dorotha was employed at the Elgin Watch Factory for 8 years. She was united in marriage to Robert Litzenberg in 1947, and to this union a daughter, Linda was born. Later in Life, Dorotha was blessed with a second marriage to Jerome Teves. She became a jeweler, and together they resided in Hawaii for 25 years. After Jerome died, she moved to Washington and California where she continued in the watch and jewelry business, designing and manufacturing jewelry and tending to her park-like garden and her beloved pets. Following the passing of her beloved daughter, Dorotha moved back to Lincoln in 2002 to be close to her siblings, nieces and nephews, and their children. For the next several years, she and her family had many picnics and took many trips together. There was a long trip throughout New England and trips to Branson, where they sang, "off-tune" hymns and laughed like children the whole way! On September 9, 2009, Dorotha was united in marriage to Dewey Nickels in Lincoln at the Sunken Gardens, and HIS family welcomed her with open arms and numerous grandchildren for her to enjoy. One of the highlights of their marriage was their trip to Israel and other travels together. Mostly, however, they enjoyed the quiet company of each other in their home. "Dorth", as she was affectionately known, exuded gratefulness no matter her circumstance. She was affectionate - passing out hugs and kisses as readily as a smile. Dorth was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church and later became a member of the Connecting Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Lincoln. She was a lover of her savior, her family, gardens, animals and all things pure and lovely. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, I. Jean Tipton, Lincoln, Darwin Hanneman, also of Lincoln, brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Joanie Kuhn, Waxahachie,TX, her several adoring nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert, Jerome, and Dewey; daughter, Linda in 2001; brother, Eldon "Bud" Kuhn and his wife, Kathleen; a sister, Donna Hanneman and two infant brothers. She also was preceded in death by her two adopted siblings, brother, Gerald (Pauline) Stahly and sister, Beulah (Mrs. Ervin) Schernikau.
