Elda Marie Lina Rhineshart was born September 30, 1917, on a farm near Nemaha, Nebraska to Wilhelm and Lydia (Hahn) Grube, the oldest of four children and passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, at the Heritage Crossings Care Center in Geneva at the age of 99. She was baptized as an infant at the Zion Lutheran Church in Johnson, Nebraska. As a young girl, Elda attended country school and graduated from Johnson High School. Following graduation and prior to her marriage, Elda helped her parents, doing farm chores and helping take care of her younger brothers and sister.
"Marie", as she was affectionately known, was united in marriage to William Rhineshart on May 26, 1939, and to this union a daughter, Shirley was born. They made their home in Auburn and later moved to Lincoln, where Elda was a kitchen supervisor at Abel Hall at the University of Nebraska. She retired after 40 years at the age of 90. Marie was a hard worker and never complained, even during various surgeries and after suffering a broken arm. She continued to be active at her home in Lincoln until recently when she resided at The Legacy Assisted Living in Lincoln and later at the Heritage Crossings in Geneva.
Marie enjoyed her pets, especially her dog "John" and her cat "Blackie". Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she enjoyed treating family and friends at her favorite restaurant, The Olive Garden. Marie loved shopping for bargains and spending time at the mall. She was a great cook and was known for her excellent mashed and scalloped potatoes as well as her peanut butter balls. She would often be heard saying with a smile, "I'll keep that in mind".
Survivors include her granddaughters and spouses, Kim and Kurt Hirth, Arlington, VA, Dawn M. and Jed Henry, Omaha, Jill and James Cunningham, Geneva; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Dylan Tvrdy, Omaha, Nathaniel Cunningham, Geneva, Jolene and Grace Henry, Omaha; a great-great-grandson, Finnley Tvrdy, also of Omaha; sister-in-law, Leona Grube, Lincoln; a son-in-law, Howard Ach and his wife, Marilyn, Friend; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
