H. L. Petersen Obituary (1924

In Memory OfH. L. "Pete" PetersenH. L. "Pete" Peterson was born at St. Paul, Nebraska on August 24, 1924 to Hilton and Leana (Souponchick) Petersen, a middle child of ten children and went to celebrate with the Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Sunrise Country Manor with HoriSun Hospice care in Milford, Nebraska at the age of 83 years 11 months and 10 days following a battle with cancer. He bore his illness with courage, patience and faith. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1949 and remained faithful until his death. As a young boy he attended St. Paul Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1942. Following his graduation, Pete joined the Marine Corp for four years and returned from his service during WWII to continue his education at Southeast Community College in Milford where he graduated in 1947. Pete was always interested in educational growth and took classes from Concordia College, Seward, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Colorado State College. He was united in marriage to Belva L. Stutzman on August 24, 1948 in Milford, Nebraska and they were blessed with an adopted son, Bob, in 1954. Together Pete and Belva made their home in Milford where he taught at SCC Milford in Building Construction Technology for 12 years. He was involved in buying and selling real estate for many years, served as consultant for the Northern Natural Gas Company and then worked at the capital for the 309 Task Force for 14 years and was an Administrative Consultant to four governors during this time. Pete also operated Training Techniques, Inc. and Petersen's Apartments and Storage. Pete also served the community of Milford on several projects and was an active member of the Seward County and State Republican committees. He was a member of the American Legion Post #171, Milford and the Seward VFW. He also was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Nebraska Industrial Development Corporation (Vision 17). Pete attended Grace Missionary Church and enjoyed this very much. He was a kind, loving husband and friend and will be missed by many. In his spare time, Pete was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. He loved the outdoors. Golfing was one of his favorite pastimes and enjoyed staying at their winter home in Coolidge, Arizona for the past 15 years. He loved to promote and help others with their needs. Surviving Pete in life are his wife, Belva, Milford, son Bob and granddaughter Amber Petersen, Denver, CO, sisters, Lorraine Kurtz, Jean Mowry, Bonnie and husband Dick Coon, sister-in-law, Bertha Petersen, all of New York, sister-in-law, Elaine Petersen, Chapman, NE, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merle and Arlene Stutzman, Lois Riley, all of Milford, JoAnn Stutzman, Westminster, CO, Richard Stutzman, Beatrice, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding Pete in death by his granddaughter, Candice Petersen, brothers, Holly, Hilmer and Heber, sisters, Jerda Ellis and Margie Ellis, brothers-in-law, Carl Kurtz, Bill Ellis, George Ellis, Ferman Riley, and Ellis Stutzman. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Grace Missionary Church in Milford, with Rev. Andrew Petro officiating. Interment will be prior to service at 10:00 a.m. at Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Visitation at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home will be from noon a
