Harry L. Rediger Obituary (1904

In Memory OfHarry L. RedigerHarry L. Rediger, of Milford, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford at the age of 99 years 7 months and 2 days. He was born on September 29, 1904 on a farm south of Milford to Noah and Anna (Sutter) Rediger, the seventh of twelve children. As a young boy, his family moved to Milford and Harry attended elementary school. He then worked the beet fields and other jobs in western Nebraska and also followed the harvest crew as they worked in different states. Harry was united in marriage to Edna Irene Burkey on March 24, 1929 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 24, 1999. To this union two children, a daughter, Mildred and a son, Robert were born. They began their life living in a hotel which Edna managed until their children were born. They later lived in several different homes in the Milford community. In 1929, Harry started his life-long career in the Chevrolet business in Milford, still known as Rediger Chevrolet. He retired in 1970 when his son, Robert, acquired the business. Harry accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour and was a member of Grace Missionary Church, where he served on the church board and in other capacities. He enjoyed attending the services of the church until around the age of 95. The last years of his life were spent at Sunrise Country Manor, where he was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors enjoying fishing and hunting. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Richard Stahly, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Shirley Rediger, all of Milford, four grandchildren and spouses, Jim and Carolyn Stahly, Terry and Peggy Rediger, all of Milford, Jack Rediger Gretna, and David and Ann Bluhm of Alhambra, IL, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, brother, Ray Rediger, Milford, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna in 1999, six brothers, Dan, Earl, Clarence, Harvey, Jacob and Jack, four sisters, Katherine Schultz, Susan Smith, Emma Sherk and Maude Horan. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the Grace Missionary Church in Milford, with Rev. Andrew Petro officiating. Interment is in Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Milford. Visitation is from 10am-9pm Monday, 9am-noon Tuesday, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, and one hour before services at the church Tuesday. Memorials have been established to Grace Missionary Church. Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons, Terry, Jack, Matt, Justin and Patrick Rediger and Jim Stahly. Honorary Pallbearers are Keith Clouse, Harry Burkey, Dave Bluhm, Bruce, Wayne and Jim Rediger. The organist, Letha Rardin, accompanied Pastor Roy Nelson as he sang "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone", "Face To Face", "What A Day That Will Be" and a medley of "My Tribute" and _________. Debra Merritt played "How Great Thou Art" as a piano solo. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, is entrusted with arrangements.
