Hubert J. Gropp Obituary (1921

In Memory ofHUBERT J. GROPPHubert John Gropp, of Friend, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 82 years 7 months 18 days. He was born November 29, 1921, the youngest son of John and Lydia (Engel) Gropp on a farm east of Friend. As a young boy he attended White Cloud Country School near Dorchester and later attended and graduated with the Class of 1938 from Dorchester High School. Hubert and his brother Irvin enjoyed breaking ponies for riding and also for small buggies. On August 24, 1946, Hubert was united in marriage to Marion Ruth Rohrig at the Methodist Church in Friend with Rev. Robert L. Embree officiating. To this union three children were born: Paul Edward, Phil Hubert and Patsy Ann. As a young family they made their home southwest of Dorchester where Hubert raised cattle and made many trips to the stockyards in Omaha and St. Joseph, MO after working all day in the fields. He also raised hogs and farmed. In 1962 the family moved southwest of Friend where he resided with his wife until his death. Hubert was a member for more than 50 years of the United Methodist Church of Friend where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also a member of the Friend Grange #390 where he sang with a quartet. Hubert also drove a school bus for Friend Public Schools for 20 years. Hubert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion Gropp, Friend, sons and daughter-in-law, Paul and Gail Gropp, Friend, Phil Gropp, Omaha, daughter, Patsy Neal, Salt Lake City, UT, five grandchildren, P.D. Gropp and his wife Tangie, Milford, Scott Gropp and special friend, Shedera Bausch both of Lincoln, Grant Bruns, Kearney, Apollo and Cassie Neal, Salt Lake City, Utah, three great granddaughters, Brittany, Danielle and Shelby Gropp, Milford, as well as nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Irvin. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Friend United Methodist Church with Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 9pm Tuesday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour before services at the church. Memorials have been established to the Friend United Methodist Church. Pallbearers were P.D. Gropp, Scott Gropp, Grant Bruns, Apollo Neal, Duane Gropp, and Roger Semler. Honorary Pallbearers were Cassie Neal, Brittany, Danielle and Shelby Gropp. Charlene Huber, organist, accompanied Rev. Delmar Klover, soloist, as he sang "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "The Old Rugged Cross. The congregation sang "Til We Meet Again" as they exited the church. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend, is in charge of arrangements.
