In Memory OfIrene EurichIrene Clara Eurich, was born on a farm near Dorchester on November 17, 1915, to Henry and Frances (Andelt) Cerny, the oldest of ten children and passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Friend Manor in Friend, Nebraska at the age of 93 years 4 months and 7 days. As a young girl she attended District #75, Dorchester Public School and later completed her high school education and earned her teaching certificate by extension. Irene was united in marriage to Elmer Thompson on November 18, 1933 and to this union three children, Darlene, Richard, David, were born. Irene was blessed with a second marriage to Franklin J. Eurich on February 22, 1983 in Belleville, KS. Irene and Elmer made their home in Friend where they operated "Thompson's Meat Market" until 1949 and later farmed southeast of Friend. After earning her teaching certificate, Irene taught country school in Saline County. She was a busy mother and homemaker helping Elmer on the farm. They later purchased the "Friendly Lanes" bowling alley in Friend and Irene continued to operate the bowling alley for a short time after Elmer's death. Irene also helped in the veterinary clinics in Crete and in Friend. After her marriage to Franklin, they farmed southeast of Friend, where Irene helped with the farm chores and raised 400 chickens, selling and delivering eggs to Lincoln and to local friends until after Franklin passed away in 2006. In their spare time they enjoyed dancing and attending car races. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #183, both of Friend. Irene also was a former member of the Friend Rebeckah Lodge and the Turkey Creek Homemakers. In her spare time she was an avid reader and enjoyed working puzzles. Irene is survived by her children and spouses, Darlene Wilson, Lakewood, CO, Richard and Carol Thompson, Friend, David and Cindy Thompson, Waverly, grandchildren, Pamela and Diane Wilson, both of Denver, CO, Richard M. Thompson, San Antonio, TX, Kenneth "Scott" Thompson, Vermont, Darren A. Thompson, Friend, Nancy Wetzel, LaCrosse, WI, Carrie Roth, Lincoln, Chris Naber, Cedar Bluffs, Tawnya Christian, Las Vegas, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Joanne Cerny, Crete, sister, Louise Anderson, Lincoln, sisters-in-law, Darlene Cerny, Kearney, Wilma Cerny, Dorchester, Esther Deterding, Exeter, Clara Witter and Lena Burkhart, both of Crete, Lillian Bowers, Topeka, KS, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Elmer Thompson and Franklin Eurich, sisters, Maryann Cerny, Helen Kaspar, Ruth Bruns, and Frances Wittmuss, brothers, Harold, John and Jim Cerny, son-in-law, Rex Wilson, sisters-in-law, Ethel Hemsoct, Bertha Jensen, Eleanor Miner, Eunice Rickard, Leona Eurich, Irene Gifford and Frieda Keller, brothers-in-law, Earl Wittmuss, Henry Bruns, Robert Anderson, Bill Thompson, Oliver "Bud" Thompson, Albert, Lyman and Conrad Eurich. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the United Church of Christ in Friend, with Rev. Tim and Rev. Ginny Adams officiating.
