Isla M. Ryan Obituary (1920

In Memory OfIsla M. RyanIsla Marie Ryan, of Milford, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Seward Memorial Hospital in Seward at the age of 84 years 2 months and 15 days. She was born near Milford on April 25, 1920 to Fred B. and Mae (Hahn) Welsch, the oldest of two girls. As a young girl she attended country school and later graduated from Crete High School and furthered her education at Lincoln School of Commerce. Isla was united in marriage to Robert D. Ryan on June 28, 1942 in Seward and to this union two daughters, Beth and Carolyn were born.During her husband's military career they lived in Granite City, IL, Washington, DC, Okinawa, Ft. Sill, OK, Herlong, CA, Stuttgart Germany, Ft. Hood, TX, Verdun France, Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Aurora, CO, Ft. Lewis, WA, Tacoma and Olympia, WA, Bamberg, Germany, and Ft. Ord, CA. Isla returned to Milford in the late 60's and was later joined by Robert after he completed his final tour in Vietnam. She became active again as a member of the West Blue Church, rural Milford, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #171, Milford and the Seward County Historical Society. Isla worked for the Seward ASCS Office, the Seward Ration Board and Seward Dry Goods. In 1992, Isla moved to the Crestview Nursing Home where she enjoyed watching birds outside her window at the feeder and she also wrote several articles for the Milford Times. Her family enjoyed her special letters. Isla enjoyed watching baseball especially the Cubs and also working crossword puzzles in her spare time. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Naylor, Milford, grandson and wife, George and Beth Naylor, Oxford, NE, son-in-law, Michael Brice, Ft. Bragg, CA, several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Isla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, a daughter, Carolyn D. Brice, and a sister, Jean Welsch McConnell.A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2004, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, with Rev. Warren Spellman officiating. Interment will be at West Blue Church Cemetery, rural Milford. Visitation will be from 9-9 on Thursday and until service time on Friday. Memorials have been established to West Blue Cemetery Association, Seward County Historical Society or Milford Rescue Squad.
