John D Horky

John D. Horky, of Milford, formerly of Beatrice and Friend, was born September 12, 1952, in Friend, Nebraska to David and Carol (Lape) Horky, the oldest of 6 children, and passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Sunrise Country Manor near Milford at the age of 64.

As a young boy, he attended Prescott Elementary School in Lincoln and later enrolled in the Nebraska School for the deaf in Omaha. He spent many years in Birmingham, Alabama before moving back to Nebraska where he resided in Beatrice. He moved to the Sunrise Country Manor in 2016.

Johnnie as he was affectionately known, had a special way with animals and enjoyed taking care of them, including feeding wild birds (even having one become tame enough to touch). He trained his goldfish to come to his fingers by tapping on the fish bowl at feeding time. While living in Beatrice, his neighbor's animals, always came to his side whenever he was near them.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Karen Horky, Fairbury, Joe and Mary Horky, Fort Collins, CO, sisters and brothers-in-law, Kris Baber, Friend, Shannon and Doug Paulsen, also of Friend, Sallie Horky, Quinton, VI, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 12noon - 4 pm at the Friendship Terrace in Friend, Nebraska.
