In Memory OfJolleen (Kelso) Prokop A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the United Methodist Church, Friend, with Rev. Paixao Baptista officiating. Interment will be in the Wilber Czech Cemetery, following lunch at the church. Visitation will be from 1-8 pm on Friday, with family greeting relatives and friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Friend. Memorials have been established to the United Methodist Church or to the Saline County Historical Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend. Jolleen (Kelso) Prokop was born in Mante, Arkansas, on April 23, 1922, to George and May Arleigh (Hunter) Boggs and passed away suddenly, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 93 years 9 months and 10 days. She and her twin sister, Colleen, were the youngest of ten children. The family moved to Guide Rock, Nebraska a year later. Their mother died when the twins were two years old, and their father later died in an accident. The children were all sent to Whitehall State Children's Home in Lincoln. In 1927, Clarence Sr. and Minnie (Richison) Kelso of Friend took the twins into foster care. A year later, Jolleen went to live with Clarence's brother, Azariah, and his wife, Elizabeth (Richison) Kelso, also of Friend. They adopted Jolleen and later another girl, Dorothy. Jolleen attended Saline County rural School District #23 and graduated from Friend High School in 1939, receiving a Normal Scholarship. She earned her B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1976. Jolleen taught school for 31 years and was later a member of the Saline County Retired Teachers' Association. On November 15, 1953, she married Longin Prokop of Friend. They lived on a farm east of Friend until 1991, when they moved to town. They had two children, Arlie and Terry. Jolleen joined the United Methodist Church in 1935. She was choir director, organist and president of the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school, and sponsored youth groups with her husband. Jolleen was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 24 years until it disbanded, serving as its pianist, Noble Grand, District President, and District Deputy President. She was also active in the Friend Golden Agers, served as a Girl Scout troop leader, and was a member of the Saline County Historical Society. Jolleen loved church, family, friends, music, books, and flowers. In July 2000, she was awarded the Friend's Lifetime Citizen of the Year Award. Jolleen is survived by her daughter, Arlie Prokop, Friend; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Gail Prokop, two grandsons, Alex and Tony, all of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Longin in 2013; her biological and adoptive parents, 3 infant siblings, twin sister, Colleen Helmink, 3 brothers Harold, Hayward and John Boggs, 3 sisters, Dorothy Kelso, Elsie Kahler, and Delores Boggs.
