Josephine Newton

In Memory OfJosephine "Jo" Newton Josephine "Jo" Newton, 87, of Ravenna, formerly of Milford, died Friday, 11/26/04, in Grand IslandBorn: 12/9/16 at Sterling at the age of 87 years 11 months and 17 days. She was born December 9, 1916 in Sterling to John G. and Minnie (Ehman) Christline, the youngest of two children. As a young girl she attended and graduated with the Class of 1934 from Sterling High School. Jo furthered her education, receiving her cosmetology license in 1934 and then attended UNL for two years. On July 15, 1947, Jo was united in marriage to Lee Roy Newton in Lincoln and to this union two daughters, Donna Lee and Nancy Jo were born. During WWII she worked at the Stop Nut Factory in Lincoln and later taught country school for seven years. She also worked in beauty salons in Adams and at Ben Simons in Lincoln. She later operated a beauty salon in her home in Milford after she and Lee moved to Milford in 1948. Jo moved to Shawnee Mission, KS in the fall of 1999 to live with her daughter Nancy Jo. In May of 2003 Jo moved to Ravenna to be with her daughter, Donna Lee. Jo was a member of Blue River Chapter #32 OES. She was an avid Husker fan and in her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and playing cards especially Bridge. Jo was an avid researcher of her family history. Jo is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Lee and Norman Lewandowski, Rockville, Nancy Jo and Bob Corder, Shawnee Mission, KS, granddaughter and spouse, Christy Witt and Pierre Floriano, Austin, TX, grandsons and spouses, Bryan and Suzanne Witt, Sierra Vista, AZ, Tim and Katie Lewandowski, Minden, Adrian and Jamie Lewandowski, Loup City, Evan Lewandowski, Rockville, NE, great-grandchildren, Joshua Floriano, Braden Witt, Jessica Witt, Jaden Lewandowski, step-grandchildren and spouses, Michele and Kurt Taylor, Prairie Village, KS, Keith and Adriana Corder, Greenville, NC, Jeff and Liz Corder, Overland Park, KS, step-great-grandchildren, Jeff, Ashley and Brandi Taylor, Prairie Village, KS, Kirstyn and Nick Corder, Overland Park, KS, Isabella and Gabriella Corder, Greenville, NC, sisters-in-law, Nellie Hosic, Lincoln, Marguerite Newton, Melba Newton, both of Milford, niece, Janet Newton, Milford, and a host of other relatives and friends. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee in 1995, sister, Wilma Jewell, brother-in-laws, Wayne Jewell, Carl and Frank Newton. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2004, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Interment is in Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, NE. Visitation is from 5-9 pm Sunday and until service time at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford. Memorials have been established and are directed in care of the family.
