Milford, Nebraska
Karen Sue (Johnson) Filbert was born on September 29, 1957, in Friend, Nebraska, to Clifford and Marylin (Simpson) Johnson. She passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Seward Memorial Hospital.
As a young girl, Karen moved with her family to Milford, where she graduated from Milford High School in 1975. She chose to stay in Milford, building her life and raising her family. Karen is survived by her children, Shawn and Jenna Filbert of Milford, and Kris (Kristen) and Tim Derr of Friend; her seven beloved grandchildren: Tyler, Rorie, Lyla, Liam, Ryker, Lanie, and Addilyn; her brother, Steven Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina; and her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Joseph Grutsch of Malcolm. She is also survived by a host of relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.
Karen's life was rooted in faith. She lived with a steadfast trust in God's promises, sharing His love through her words, actions, and the way she welcomed others into her life. Her spirit and kind heart left a mark on all who knew her. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with love and laughter, where friends and neighbors found not only a warm meal or a listening ear but also a safe place to be themselves. To many, she was more than a friend-she was a second mom, a mentor, and a source of unwavering support.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Filbert, in 2022. Their love and partnership were the foundation of their family, and her life was never quite the same without him. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Marylin Johnson, and her parents-in-law, Martin and Josie Filbert. Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of her family and friends, they take comfort in knowing she rests in God's embrace. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
There will be a Celebration of Life Open House on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 3:30 - 6:00 PM with remarks, prayer, and scripture to be given at 4:30. This will be held at her house; 710 224th St. Milford.
