In Memory OfLois R. Hoppe Lois Ruth Hoppe, of Seward, formerly of Crete, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Green House Assisted Living Center in Seward at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 27 days. She was born September 22, 1915, in Holland, Nebraska to Harmon & Clara (Wismer) Vedder, the 2nd of 4 children. Lois graduated from Hickman High School with the class of 1934 and on July 21, 1934, she was united in marriage to Virgil Hoppe in Council Bluffs, IA. To this union three sons, Ron, Roger and Gordon were born. Together Lois & Virgil farmed north of Princeton, Nebraska, later moving to the Hoppe Farm 5 miles south of Dorchester until their retirement in 1962, when they moved into Crete. Lois was employed with Form-Fit Garment Factory for several years and in her spare time she enjoyed working with plants and flowers. In fact, her success at growing plants allowed her to have plant sales in the spring, which she grew over the winter. Lois was also an excellent African Violet grower. In their retirement years, Lois and Virgil loved to attend dances and play cards such as pitch. She was a very caring person and was known to many to have a great sense of humor with her "one-liners". She was a former member of the Dorchester United Methodist Church and the Crete Berean Church, where she would from time to time play the piano with sunday school students. Lois was also active at one time with the Ladies Extension Club, meeting at Pleasant Hill for bake sales and other events. Survivors include her husband, Virgil, Seward, sons and daughters-in-law, Ron & Sally Hoppe, Salem, OR, Roger & Joyce Hoppe, Milford and Gordon & Sharon Hoppe of Omaha, nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Violet Obermeyer, Hickman, several nieces and nephews.
