Friend, Nebraska
In Loving Memory OfMargaret S. EngelMargaret S. Engel, of Bloomfield, formerly of Friend, died Monday, September 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Bloomfield at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 16 days. She was born June 28, 1915, on a farm northeast of Friend, Nebraska to John C. & Emma I. (Heckman) Weber, the first of two children. As a young girl, Margaret attended Country School District #101 near Friend and later attended Friend Public Schools. She met and later was united in marriage to Arthur E. Engel on July 11, 1942, at the Methodist Parsonage in Friend. To this union two daughters, Judith and Bonnie, and a son, Terry, were born. Together they resided briefly in Beatrice and Geneva before moving to the Weber farmstead near Friend in 1945. As the years went by they eventually moved into the town of Friend in 1963. It is about that time when Margaret began her employment as a cook with Warren Memorial Hospital of Friend for 15 years, retiring in 1981. Her talent for cooking came easy for her and one of her family's favorites was her famous fried chicken. In her retirement years, Margaret enjoyed sewing, crocheting and other needlework. In addition, she loved listening to country music and reading the daily newspaper. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her family and looked forward to seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren often. One of the many things Margaret will always be remembered by was her unselfishness. She always was thinking of others ahead of herself. She was a member of the Friend United Methodist Church, the UMW, Friend Grange #390, the Sunshine & Jolly Homemakers Clubs and was a 4-H Leader for 10 years. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Judith Boyce of Bellevue, Bonnie & Stanley Lake of Bloomfield, her son, Terry Engel and daughter-in-law, Kathleen, of Covington, LA, eight grandchildren, Peggy & Ted Hansen, Bellevue, Ralph Jr. & Michelle Boyce, Nehawka, Cinda Boyce, Omaha, Cecil & Marcia Lake, Mullen, Karl & Susan Lake, Grant, Pamela & Karl Flores, Barrigada, Guam, Angela Engel and Kelly Engel, both of Covington, LA, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a special niece, Jessica Vossler, of Lincoln, and other relatives and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur in 1991, her sister, Ila Vossler and an infant sister, Margaret Weber and an infant brother, Harold Weber.
