IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARY JUANITA "Nita" SMITHA Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Beaver Crossing Cemetery with Pastor Eric Wiezorek officiating. Cloy Stutzman will sing at the service. A lunch will be served at the Beaver Crossing Community Building following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Crossing United Methodist Church food pantry.Mary Juanita "Nita" Smith went home to heaven Friday afternoon, October 6, 2017, from her home in Cadillac, Michigan at the age of 96 years and 24 days. She was born September 12, 1921 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Charles and Dolly Miley.Nita married John B. Smith, a Beaver Crossing native, in June of 1943 in Seattle, Washington and to this union, a son, Dennis was born. John preceded her in death in October 1998. John was a career Navy veteran and they lived in many locations across the country. After John retired from the Navy they lived in Mitchell, South Dakota for several years where Nita was Executive Director of the American Red Cross for Davison County, SD. She later became a Title I tutor for the Mitchell, SD school system.When Nita retired, they moved to Beaver Crossing where she was very active in the community. She was in charge of the Beaver Crossing United Methodist food pantry, worked on the Beaver Crossing "Life" staff, organized community fundraiser dinners, was a member of Kensington Club and was named Beaver Crossing Woman of the Year in 1993. Among her hobbies, she loved cooking and sewing Barbie Doll clothes for family members.Survivors include her only son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jean Smith of Cadillac, MI; three grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Kimberly Smith of Cadillac, MI; Sandra and David Ferguson of Flagstaff, AZ; Mark and Jennifer Good Smith of Lancaster, PA; three great grandchildren, Hannah and Rebekah Smith and Sam Ferguson.
