In Loving Memory Of Matthew J. A. Segner, Jr. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Friend Christian Assembly with Pastor Eric Jensen officiating. Interment will be in the Andrew Cemetery at Friend. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8pm at the Friend Christian Assembly with the family greeting relatives and friend from 3-5 pm. Viewing also one hour prior to the service on Monday. Memorials are directed in care of the family for Matt's special mission interests. Matthew John Alfred Segner, Jr was born April 30, 1934 at Warren Memorial Hospital, Friend, Nebraska to Matthew John Paul Segner, Sr. and Mary Ann (Foreman) Segner and passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln at the age of 81 years 4 months and 18 days. With his family, Matthew lived on a farm northwest of Friend and attended Country School District #23 north of Friend and later graduated from Cordova High School with the class of 1952. On January 23, 1965, he married the love of his life, Wanda Leona Blackburn at Bethany Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska and to this union two children were born, Ruby Ann and Paul Matthew. Matt's life revolved around his faith in the Lord and his love of agriculture. He enjoyed all the hard work and hours that goes into farming. Matthew had a passion for working on older tractors especially his Allis Chalmers WC. Farming and raising livestock, especially cattle and hogs has always been a livelihood for Matt and is something that he has instilled in his son and grandsons. He especially enjoyed the farming process of planting in the spring, watching it grow and harvesting in the fall. A favorite activity during the growing and harvesting seasons was driving around the area, checking the progress of crops and livestock. Matt was an active member and supporter of Child Evangelism Fellowship serving on both district and state boards as well as committed service on several Church Boards over the years. Matt has been an active member in several church communities which has blessed him with many special friendships. Matt was a regular attendee of the Friend Christian Assembly Church in Friend, Nebraska. Matt's love of his family was very precious and he showed it in many ways, creating toys for his children and grandchildren. He often attended and followed the activities of his children and grandchildren throughout their school and church years. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Wanda, of Friend; daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Randy Deunk of Cortland, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Debra Segner of Friend; grandsons, Brandon and Aaron Deunk, Jared, David and Darren Segner, along with four foreign exchange student "grandsons", Cameron, Moritz, Paul and Max as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Anna Segner, Sr., brothers-in-law, Ronald Blackburn, Harold Ellis, sisters-in-law, Margaret Ellis, Dory Blackburn, Glorian Blackburn, parents-in-law, Ira and Hattie Blackburn. Loren Duerksen will share a "Ditty" of Family Memories. Pallbearers are: Brandon and Aaron Deunk, Jared, David and Darren Segner, Max Gschwandtner. Rena Mae Lawson, organist, will play the prelude and postlude and accompany the congregation as they sing "Because He Lives". Danielle Jensen, pianist, will accompany the duet of Becky Ettwein and JoAnn Drake as they sing "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and Lavern Quiring, soloist, as he sings "Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary". The graveside selection will be "How Great Thou Art".
