In Memory OfMicheal P. MarquardtMicheal Paul Marquardt was born February 5, 1938 in Oak Park, IL, the only child born to Mark and Nadine (McDonald) Marquardt and died at his son and daughter-in-law's home in Crete, Nebraska Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the age of 72 years 11 months and 4 days. As a young boy, Mike lived with his family in several states and graduated from high school in Rich Hill, MO with the class of 1956. Following his graduation he continued his education and earned an Associate's Degree in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Mike enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at White Sands, NM where he was involved in the development of missile guidance systems. Mike was united in marriage to Marlos Jones and to this union two daughters, Terry and Pam, were born. Upon his discharge from the army he helped his father operate bowling alleys in Cherryville, MO and Charles City, IA. While working at the bowling alley in Charles City, he met his soul mate, Linda Gray and they were united in marriage on March 20, 1970, in St. Joseph MO and to this union a son, Scott, and a daughter, Christy, were born. Together they made their home in Lincoln where Mike was a department manager at Sears. In 1979, they purchased the bowling alley in Friend and operated it as "Friendly Lanes" until October of 2000. Upon his retirement he was employed at various area businesses including Orv's Grocery in Friend, Greg's Market in Exeter and Danbred in Seward. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping and coaching baseball and softball. He especially enjoyed the times spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Cordova, Ford-Banka American Legion Post #183, Friend, and the Pro-Bowlers Association. He is survived by his wife, Linda, Friend, children and spouses, Scott and Wanda Marquardt, Crete, Christy Motis, North Platte, Pam and Todd Sharp, St. Louis, MO, grandchildren and spouse, Misty and Steven Chiu, New York, NY, Kylie Vyhnalek, North Platte, Trey Marquardt, Crete, Nicholas Sharp, St. Louis, MO, great-granddaughter, Ella Chiu, and grandkids, Vanessa, Andres and Erika Ruiz, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Terry in 1996. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cordova with Rev. Brian Tuma officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend, with military services conducted by Ford-Banka American Legion Post #183. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 10 am - 8pm and Thursday, 9am - noon at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend, and one hour prior to service at church. Memorials may be directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are Randy Hellbush, Terry Beck, Roger Hanneman, Bob Kassik, Brandon Janzi and Justin Lawver. Honorary Pallbearers are Cal Engle, Dave Durfee, Brian Himmelburg, Ray Rohrig, Kevin Paulsen, Dr. Robert McKeeman. Kathy Due, organist, accompanied the congregation as they sang.
