In Loving Memory OfMildred L. FerrisMildred "Millie" Louise Ferris was born February 21, 1927, on a farm near Gregory, South Dakota to Anton & Anna (Karl) Rajewich and passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 81 years 10 months and 27 days. Millie moved with her family to Ord when she was ten years old and graduated from Ord High School.Mildred was united in marriage to Melvern Ferris on August 5, 1946 at her parent's home in Ord and to this union six children: Margaret, Marilyn, Maxine, Mavis, Mark and Milton were born. They made their home in Ord for a short time before moving to Ansley, Nebraska where she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store. They later resided in North Loup and Dorchester before moving to Milford in 1966. After Melvern's death in 1970, Millie started working in Milford. She co-managed Mac's Cafe and was also employed at the Donut Shop. As a young girl, Millie always enjoyed cleaning house for her mother and in Milford enjoyed working as a janitor for Farmers & Merchants Bank, the Milford Clinic and worked at the dime store until her retirement. Mildred was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and received the life-time membership award. Mildred was a very caring and loving mother and friend, always doing for others in need. Her philosophy was that one should be happy and make each day special. When she had time, she enjoyed embroidery and Millie especially loved baking kolaches and making candies and cookies at christmas time. Her chili and oyster soup were family favorites. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Jim Scott, Cove, AR, Marilyn and Keith Baker, Ainsworth, Maxine Vanek, Cottage Grove, MN, Mavis Ferris, Milford, sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Tee Ferris, Bennington, Milton and Denise Ferris, Crystal, MN, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvern in 1970; three brothers, Ed, Victor and Jerry Rajewich.Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Milford United Methodist Church, with Pastor Michael Curd officiating. Interment is in Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Visitation Monday 11:00-8:00 p.m. and 9:00-noon on Tuesday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, and 1 hour prior to services at church. Memorials to Nebraska Special Olympics or to the American Legion Auxiliary. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, is entrusted with arrangements.
