In Memory OfMIRIAM Z. WEBERMiriam Z. Weber, of Friend, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 29 days. She was born March 25, 1929, on a farm seven miles northeast of Tobias, Nebraska to Lennie and Maude (Spangler) Frankforter, the youngest of three children and was baptized at the Tobias Community Church. As a young girl Miriam attended Possum Hill Country School District #77 later graduating from Friend High School with the Class of 1946. Miriam furthered her education by attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she studied elementary education. Miriam taught country schools #101 and #33 in Saline County. On August 14, 1949, she was united in marriage to Stanley Weber at the Friend Methodist Church and to this union four children were born, Janet, Judith, Patti, and Pamela.In 1964 Miriam began her 38-year career as a secretary to the Principal of Friend Public Schools, continuing to work until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Friend United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. In her early church membership, Miriam was active in the WSCS Circles and taught Sunday school when her children were young. She and Stan were also church custodians for several years. In addition, Miriam was also a member of the PEO Chapter Q and the Bizzie Lizzie Club, both in Friend. She was an avid reader, reading everything from best sellers to periodicals and fiction. A busy mother, Miriam still found time to enjoy attending her children's and grandchildren's activities including school plays and sporting events. She enjoyed teaching all of her grandchildren how to play golf and it was a great joy to watch her grandsons participate in the state high school golf tournaments. A family holiday tradition was her prime rib dinner at Christmas including her butterfinger cookies and brownies. Miriam always enjoyed baking cakes and pies for church activities whenever needed. Miriam is survived by her husband, Stan Weber, Friend, daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Rod Wellman, Judith and Mark Lafferty, all of Lincoln, Patti and Jeff Combs, Friend, and Pamela Svehla, Lincoln, ten grandchildren, Scot and fiance' Nicole Richardson, Lincoln, Rustin and Dixi Wellman, Waverly, Stacia Wellman, San Luis Obispo, CA, Amy and Bryan Stump, Asheville, NC, Adam Lafferty and Ashley Lafferty, both of Lincoln, Travis and Heidi Combs, York, Paul Combs, Maryville, MO, Nicholas Svehla and Dana Svehla, both of Lincoln, two great-granddaughters, Skye Travis, Waverly, and Cori Jo Combs, York, sister and brother-in-law, Rebanis and Eugene Gloye, Grover Beach, CA, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard Weber, Friend, Ivan and Alta Weber, Dorchester, sister-in-law, Delores and Don Burda, Sunnyvale, CA, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Blaine Frankforter, and a sister-in-law, Lola Frankforter.A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Friend with Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Monday and 9-9 Tuesday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials have been established and may be directed in care of the family. Pallbearers are Scot and Rustin Wellman, Adam Lafferty, Travis and Paul Combs, Nicholas and Dana Svehla. Honorary Pallbearers are Amy Stump, Stacia Wellman, Ashley Lafferty, Skye Travis and Cori Jo Combs. Shirley Milton, organist , will accompany the Friend High School Choir, directed by Paul Ramp, as they sing "Amazing Grace" and "Wind Beneath My Wings.
