Olga Anna (Klasek) Bruntz was born March 7, 1926 on a farm near Western, Nebraska to Albert and Jenni (Havel) Klasek, the 2nd of 3 children. She passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Friend Community Health Center in Friend at the age of 90 years 5 months and 2 days. Olga attended country school and graduated with the class of 1943 from Wilber High School. After graduation, she earned her certificate to teach in rural schools, and she taught for four years in a Saline County school. At a dance at Saline Center, Olga met the love of her life, Dwaine Allen Bruntz, and was united in marriage to him on August 6, 1947. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. To this union four children were born, Linda, David, Lorri, and Bill.

They made their home on a farm southwest of Friend for 35 years, before moving into town. While living on the farm Olga raised chickens and turkeys, gardened, and canned the bounty from the garden. Olga enjoyed and was interested in many different hobbies and crafts. After her children graduated from school she began giving ceramic classes. Olga taught herself how to china paint and her family enjoyed her gift of painting, along with the gifts she shared with family and friends. She knitted afghans of all sizes, and every grandchild and great-grandchild received their special afghan. Olga loved to cook. Family favorites include chocolate chip cookies, onion bread, cinnamon rolls and kolaches. It was a real treat whenever she shared her baked goods with family and friends.

When Olga found a few minutes, she enjoyed playing cards (with a competitive spirit), reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Attending family gatherings and taking road trips with Dwaine were highlights.

Olga, along with Dwaine received the Lifetime Resident Award in 2012 from the Friend Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Friend United Methodist Church, and served her church in many positions. Olga belonged to the United Methodist Women and was leader in their quilt projects. She was also a member of the Friend Grange #390, the Friend Federated Garden Club, Friend Country Club, PEO, and the Bizzie Lizzies.
