In Memory OfPhyllis M. WilliamsPhyllis Mae Williams, of Friend, died Friday, January 6, 2006 at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 12 days. She was born July 22, 1924 in a log cabin near Meeteetse, Wyoming to Silas and Luella (Stahly) Rumler, the oldest of three children. As a young girl she attended and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Milford Public Schools and furthered her education in Lincoln at the Lincoln School of Commerce. Phyllis began a long office career as a bookkeeper, working briefly at Sack Lumber before going to work for Burlington Trucking in Lincoln. She was united in marriage to Oris Williams on October 3, 1945 at Lebanon, PA and to this union, a daughter, Linda, and a son, Dan were born.Shortly after their marriage, Phyllis and Oris moved to Friend where they remained and were active members of the community. Phyllis continued her many years of employment by working with Oris as part owner of Diamond Freightways. Later she worked for Graves Truck Line and ANR Freight Systems until her retirement. Phyllis was a member of the Friend United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and served her church in many ways. Phyllis played the organ for many years and sang at numerous funerals and weddings. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed playing Bridge, putting together puzzles and was an avid reader. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen teaching them to cook. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Oris Williams, Friend, daughter, Linda Free, Lincoln, son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Becky Williams, Lincoln, three grandchildren, Shane and Jeanie Rodie, Hoisington, KS, April and Michael Dixon, Lincoln, Amber and Norman Crouse, Lincoln, five great-grandchildren, Stormy Crisman, Reason Crisman, Alex Crouse, Kinison Crisman and Talon Crouse. She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Luella Rumler, an infant sibling, and two brothers, Rex Rumler and his wife, Darlene, and George Rumler. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Friend with Rev. Stanley LaRue and Rev. Paixaio Baptista officiating. Cremation, no viewing, a register book will be available for signing at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend from 9am ? 5 pm on Thursday and Friday. Inurnment will be at a later time in Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Memorials have been established and are directed in care of the family.
