Velma D Kasl Obituary (1928

In Loving Memory Of Velma Kasl Velma D. Kasl, of Crete, formerly of Friend, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at the Crete Manor in Crete at the age of 83 years 10 months and 21 days. She was born on January 27, 1928 on a farm near Friend to Joseph and Anna (Vnoucek) Pavlik the 5th child of 7 children. She attended a country school district in Saline County and then attended Friend Public School through the 10th grade. She was united in marriage to Harold Eugene Kasl on June 1, 1946, her life-long friend, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union a daughter, Shirley, and a son, Harold E. Jr. were born. Together they made their home on the Kasl "home" place where Velma was a busy mother and farm wife. She worked at Hughes Brothers in Seward for approximately ten years. In 1978, they sold the farm and moved into Friend. On June 1, 2002, they moved to Crete. She was a member of Saline Center ZCBJ#389 for more than 50 years and also a former member of the Friend Rebekah Lodge. Velma loved her family and every gathering was considered a holiday and Christmas was looked forward too by her family as everyone was blessed with a new pair of crocheted booties. She also made many afghans for family members. Velma also was an excellent seamstress and cook, sewing for both her family and the community. Her grandchildren especially loved her kaloches, dumplings and sauerkraut. Velma enjoyed the company of her most precious furry friend, "JoJo". She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Larry Lance, Crete, son, Harold Kasl, Jr., Crete, six grandchildren, Tim and Christine Lance, Hickman, Kymberly Combs, Lincoln, James and Kelly Lance, Lincoln, Jesse Lance, Crete, Candi Johnson, Lincoln, Douglas Kasl, Beatrice, six great-grandchildren, Skye, Cassidy, Shelby, Terra, Joslyn and Levi, a great-great-grandson, sisters, Darlene Pavlik, Crete, Irma Schindler, Phoenix, AZ, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold in 2002, brothers, Joseph and Milo Pavlik, sisters, Irene Slezak, Ella Thurman, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo Kasl, Milo and Matilda Pesek, Jr. Private Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Cremation, register book available for signing, Monday 9am-5pm, Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend. Memorials have been established and may be sent in care of the family.
