In Memory OfVernon C. Jensen Vernon C. Jensen, of Cordova, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the Exeter Care Center in Exeter at the age of 87 years 5 months and 26 days. He was born September 20, 1919 on a farm near Cordova to Thomas P. and Marie (Hansen) Jensen, the second of three children. In his youth, Vernon was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cordova. Vernon graduated from Cordova with the class of 1937. He was united in marriage to Thora E. Thompsen in Cordova on June 14, 1942 and to this union, three children were born, sons, Laurence and Paul and daughter, Lana. Together Vernon and Thora farmed north of Cordova where he was a cattle feeder. In later years he enjoyed driving in the country side checking the crops and livestock. In 1980, they moved into their new home in Cordova. Vernon was an avid card player especially enjoying the game of pitch. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were an important part of his life and he and Thora enjoyed attending all their sporting and school activities. Vernon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cordova where he served on the church council. He also served on York County School District #28 Board, the Cordova elevator board and Zastrow Cemetery board. Vernon is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence and Anita Jensen, Beaver Crossing, Paul and Nancy Jensen, Exeter, daughter and son-in-law, Lana and David Kimble, Lincoln, nine grandchildren and spouses, Rhonda Jensen, Thomas and Wendy Jensen, Aarik Jensen, Seth and Allison Jensen, Drew and Lyndsay Jensen, Sage Jensen, Glen and Jen Harre, Shawn and Jenny Harre, Amanda and Andy Johnson, eight great-grandchildren, Keegan Jensen, Zachary Jensen, Kyle Jensen, Grant Jensen, Cole Jensen, Jaxon Harre, Jordan Harre and Tyler Harre, sisters-in-law, Dagny Sorensen, Scott City, KS, Laura Swanson, Lincoln, Mildred Thompsen, Lincoln, and friend, Doris Menze, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Thora in 1995, a brother Lawrence, sister, Darlene Jensen, and daughter-in-law, Betty Jensen. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova with Rev. Rob Sachs officiating. Interment is in Zastrow Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9-9 at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Friend with family receiving relatives and friends from 7-9 pm Tuesday at funeral home. Memorials have been established to the church.
